Want to become a Vedic meditation teacher in your community?

To train as a Vedic meditation teacher (also known as ‘initiator training’ or IT) requires a significant amount of commitment and devotion. You can see it in those who graduate and go on to share the Vedic wisdom of life in their communities. It literally shines through their eyes and hearts. It takes a minimum of 3 years to train as a teacher, although for many it may be longer than that, as you enjoy your time as a daily meditator. Becoming a teacher is a wonderful and rewarding life-long experience being of service, supporting and contributing to community, and radiating Vedic wisdom for all to enjoy.

Our next training is 2026/27

Please see below for all the details.

The need of the time.

We love nothing more than taking dedicated students and supporting them in transitioning into the role of a teacher. We feel this is one of the greatest needs of our time - creating opportunities for people to learn a self-sufficient practice in which they can de-stress, awaken to their true Self, and embody it in their everyday life. This is the role of a Vedic meditation teacher.

Our teacher training is held over12 months with a 12 week intensive in India. They are immersive experiences that require your full attention - there are no days off during the intensive! Our teacher trainings are led by female teachers, bringing a love, compassion, and feminine approach to sharing the wisdom of the Veda. If you’ve been thinking of stepping into the role of a Vedic meditation teacher, have completed all the prerequisite courses (see below), want to be of great service to humanity, and your teacher has put you forward as ready to step into the role as a teacher yourself, then we are here to help you do it.

How to become a teacher.

Step 1 - Become a devoted daily Vedic meditator

First up, it requires you having taken the 4-session in-person Vedic meditation course. You then want to have been practicing twice a day for a minimum of 2 years. This is going to give you the direct experience of what it’s like to be a daily meditator, which will be your foundation for teaching. If you think about it, you wouldn’t go to a doctor who had only practiced medicine once on a medical retreat and then possibly a few times a week for six months. In the same way, when you learn to meditate you want to be learning from someone who has deep personal experience with the practice and has made it an enjoyable part of their daily life. That is how you know you’re going to get a really great teacher that will be there to support you throughout your own meditation journey.

Step 2 - Complete the advanced training prerequisites including.

  • You will need to learn the advanced technique of rounding and then attend at least one Vedic meditation Rounding Retreat where you engage in an intensive ‘high rounds’ program for 5+ days. Rounding retreats are designed to create the perfect conditions for you to let go of deep seated stressed in the body, dissolve old patterns and habits of thinking and doing, and explore the depth and breadth of your own awareness. This in turn allows you to live in a more expanded state of Being in your everyday life. We recommend at least one 7+ day rounding retreat, as rounding is the practice you will be engaging in everyday as part of your teacher training, so you want to be very familiar with it and the process of integration post-rounding.

  • After a year of meditating it’s time to get your advanced mantra, which is designed to deepen, expand, and integrate Being more and more into the eyes open experience of life. You can receive an advanced mantra every 12+ months of practice. You’ll need to have received three advanced mantra techniques before going on teacher training.

  • After mastering the practice and devoting yourself to it every day, the next part in the learning journey is to explore the deep and rich Vedic wisdom that is the place from which your meditation technique comes. It’s also the home of the wisdom of yoga and at the science of Ayurveda. Immersing yourself in the Veda via our Rishi Training is a vital part of becoming a Vedic meditation teacher - not only for the knowledge you will share but for the state of consciousness you will embody through the practise of the wisdom. You will literally become one who can ‘see’ the wisdom of life, cognise what is needed, and be able to share that generously from your heart with those around you. Rishi Training is a 4-part series that can be taken in-person or online. The final part is a 12-day immersive retreat and pilgrimage in India - a must for those wishing to train as teacher.

NOTE: We also accept other Vedic wisdom trainings that are on offer from Vedic meditation teachers. Please get in touch with us to explore your options.

  • Finally, the last prerequisite is our Siddha Training. This training is the creme de la creme of our offerings and really transforms you into the most wonderful outlet of service for humanity. This is a 6-part series taken over 12 months, and culminates in a 5-day in-person retreat.

Please note, all of these courses can be taken and you don’t have to commit to becoming a teacher! In fact, you want to be taking these courses for yourself first, not just so you can train as a teacher. They are incredible, life changing experiences, with much to learn, unlearn, practice, and embody. Whatever your dharma is, these courses are designed to help you perform it with even greater love, devotion, and service.

FAQs

  • The Mahasoma training is a culmination of over a decade of teaching experience from our founder Laura Poole, and over 35 years experience from Pandit Baskaran. Laura has mentored many teachers from different Vedic meditation teacher trainings that are on offer. She has seen what is needed to create embodied, confident, heart-led teachers, and the Mahasoma training is the expression of this need.

The training is feminine-led, supported by Ayurveda heath-practitioners, Siddha medicine doctors, and healers. It takes you on a journey to discover your own voice as a teacher, to understand the Vedic wisdom through your own direct experience, and roots you deep into the Shankaracharya lineage and Vedic culture. The training intertwines wisdom (jnana), devotion (bhakti), and service (karma) to make you a fully embodied teacher of the tradition. You will also receive all the mantras and advanced techniques you will be teaching over the years.

We also support you post-training with 4-months of additional online check-ins, wisdom sessions, and group mentoring sessions. After teaching for sometime, you will have the opportunity to train with us and learn how to teach advanced Vedic wisdom courses LIVE (Rishi Training + Siddha Training). We also offer some teachers the opportunity to work with us at Mahasoma.

  • You’ll become an independent Vedic meditation teacher, with connection to a community of independent teachers. You’ll also have a listing on the Global Vedic Meditation Directory.

  • This in an intensive training, therefore there is no time-off to spend with family or friends.

  • No! You’ll need to be 100% devoted to the training. Everything else will need to go on hold for the 12 weeks.

  • Then you will have all the wisdom and experience to enjoy your life and be of great service in whatever way is charming to you!

  • No. The prerequisites are there to help create a framework for what we consider is sufficient study to become a teacher. The purpose of all prerequisite trainings is not to just tick the boxes, but to reveal a state of consciousness that is the expression of the Vedic wisdom being learnt. They are there to prepare you to step into the role of a teacher with ease and grace. If a teacher of Mahasoma is not your current teacher, you will also need to be referred by your Vedic meditation teacher as ready for the teacher training, or you can begin working with Mahasoma teachers to prepare yourself. We may suggest things like re-sitting the advanced trainings, rounding retreats, Vedic mentoring, or other modalities that will support you in being prepared for the intensive Vedic meditation teacher training. Finally, there is an interview process to be accepted onto the training. Our intention is to take those who are fully prepared and it’s the obvious next step is to train as a Vedic meditation teacher.

  • The teacher training is designed to train you to teach - not just give you the experience of 12 weeks of rounding and wisdom. We only take people on who are committed to sharing what they learn with the world through the teaching of Vedic meditation. If you’re interested in deeper personal development, please reach out to us so we can chat to you about your options!
